WHERE WILL THE CONVERSATIONS HAPPEN?
The conversations will take place during the months of June and July:
-
In person and over kai (food). 500 people from all around New Zealand will host people-powered Kai & Kōrero events with friends, coworkers, neighbours and strangers to help create a vision for the future of Aotearoa New Zealand. At these dinners six to ten diverse participants will break bread and discuss the big questions through a uniquely designed and facilitated process.
-
On the web. We will have an online survey running to gather the views of New Zealanders. The survey will cover everything from protecting the planet, the direction of the economy, the possibilities of technology and how to adapt to current and upcoming social issues.
The data that these conversations generate will form Te Ira Tāngata: The People’s Agenda for Aotearoa New Zealand. In July and August, we’ll work with independent policy experts, creatives, and tāngata whenua to fill in the details for our plan for a fair and flourishing Aotearoa.
The Agenda will cover everything from what is needed to ensure everyone has a warm, dry home to what New Zealand can do to seize economic opportunities that lie ahead; what can we do to ensure New Zealand is an inclusive and welcoming place to live and what is the future of education?
THEN WHAT HAPPENS?
In August, we will present our people-powered vision to political parties to ask how their policies stack up against ours. We will analyse their responses, and publicise the results, along with full notes on how the analysis was done.
Then in September, members of the ActionStation community, as well as values and missions aligned allies, will gather in living rooms, pubs and churches throughout the country to have purposeful conversations with their friends and whānau about the need to vote for political parties that most closely align with Te Ira Tangata: The People’s Agenda for Aotearoa.
Using custom-built technology, people will be able to create an account, log in, and be guided through best practice methods to have poignant and persuasive conversations with their fellow voting New Zealanders. The conversations will take place through the mediums and channels people already know and use - Twitter, Facebook, email, text or real life. Our job will be to make it easier for people to have the best kinds of conversations that leave more New Zealanders feeling hopeful for the future.
By breaking out of our echo chambers, and defying social norms (talking about politics at the dinner table!) we will uncover the hopes, aspirations, and dreams we collectively hold for New Zealand, reveal the obstacles and barriers that keep us from becoming the country we want to be, now and in the future, and help pave the way for the best kinds of transformational change to happen. Together, we will shift the usual boundaries of what is possible in politics.
The Agenda will also inform the next five to ten years of ActionStation’s work. It will provide a compass of where we’re headed and give us the ability to track our progress toward our fair and flourishing future. It will also send a strong message to Government to ensure they are tracking along with our goals.
WELCOME TO A NEW KIND OF POLITICS
One that’s all about us, taking action together, in small everyday ways as well as bigger ones – in order to protect the best of what makes Aotearoa New Zealand wonderful, and shape an even brighter future.
